Yerrabi at SNAICC 2023

NAICC’23 – The 10th National SNAICC National Conference

SNAICC is the National Voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with the overarching vision that our young people and families are protected and supported, our communities are self-determined and that our cultural identities are valued. SNAICC have a key role in amplifying community and sector voice, through:

  • research, policy and leadership
  • sector development – sustainability of quality, accessible services

Representatives from Yerrabi Yurwang – Ebony Joseph, Monica Harland, Dea Delaney-Thiele Lee-anne Daley and Selina Walker – attended SNAICC in Garramilla/Darwin on Larrakia Country from 5-7 September 2023. It was a safe space to learn, share and network about early childhood education and care and child protection issues that impact our communities. It was a valuable and rare opportunity to hear about some of the incredible work happening in ACCOs and other support services across the country.

The conference was held at the Darwin Convention Centre and was the largest event of its kind held in Darwin to date, with approximately 1600 delegates attending.

The 3 days were broken up into sessions under the areas of Children & Families, Child Protection and Early Learning & Development. It was an excellent networking opportunity where many connections with other services were made, and existing links were strengthened. SNAICC was a valuable learning experience for the newer members of the team, particularly hearing about the work other ACCO’s are doing to meet the needs of their respective communities. All in all, an inspiring, validating and enriching experience.
